2014 was a whirlwind of a year for me. I got married, completed my MBA, quit my job of almost seven years and moved across the country. I may not be a pro at change management yet, but I’ve certainly learned some valuable lessons to integrate into my work and personal life.
Be authentic. The biggest lesson I learned this past year is that authenticity is happiness. It’s not the flashy car, fancy job or latest fashion statement. Being true to who you are will not only propel you further in life, but will allow you to enjoy the ride.
Find your passion. If you have yet to find a passion that you can make your job or hobby, make that your 2015 goal. As someone who loved to write stories as a little girl (my grandmother still has my first one, written when I was four), I always knew communications would be an important facet of my life.
Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you. I once read a quote from my favorite PR guru, Kelly Cutrone, “When you’re the most happening person at the party, it’s time to leave.” When the day comes that you are not learning anything new or enjoying helping others learn, look for new opportunities. Life is too short to stay stagnant.
Take your time. If you are trying new things in 2015, part of the process is learning and learning takes time. Whether it’s a new job, a new workout routine or personal goal, give yourself benchmarks to measure how you have grown. Reflect on where you were a week, month or year ago and appreciate any positive change. The beauty of life is that we are able to create and adapt.
I hope you create a life you are proud of in 2015. I know with the passionate and innovative team at Integrate, I’m only going up.
