2011 SXSW was my first SXSW experience and it was, in a word (ok, two), overwhelmingly amazing.
This was my first SXSW and although I felt like I was walking around with a big V on my forehead (ok, my Foursquare), I was undoubtedly impressed and relieved that
1. I was not the only one who got their v-card taken from Foursquare and
2. How open and willing people were to show you around.
The passion and excitement that comes to Austin for the Interactive festival is unlike anything I have ever seen before. While at times slightly annoying, marketers are pulling out all of the stops to get your attention about the next big thing (Be it the GroupMe/GroupedIn/Beluga war, new hyperlocal “Groupons”, etc.). Everyone has their game faces on and are ready to meet, mingle, learn and share. It’s awesome.
I will admit, I definitely spent more time in the hallways and at parties/lunches/happy hours than in the actual panels, but definitely got more from meeting incredible people, doing fascinating things than listening to speakers and watching powerpoint presentations.
See you next year #SXSWi!!
