New Year, New Take on Resolutions

Dec 3, 2014 | Blog

The past few years, I’ve gone without a New Years resolution. I just didn’t feel it was worth it to come up with a game plan for the following year that I knew I’d inevitably kick to the curb a few weeks later.  With an estimated 8% of Americans keeping their New Years resolutions, I’m fully aware that the odds are not in my favor, so instead of setting myself up to fail, I just left the resolutions to my peers.

This year, instead of one lofty, unachievable goal, I’m focusing on four small(ish) and ongoing changes that will make my days brighter and more fulfilling, and hopefully these can carry through to my colleagues at Integrate , as well.

Be patient.

If you know me well, then you’ve probably noticed that patience is not one of my strong suits. While I don’t think I’ll miraculously become a more patient person overnight, I would like to work on not sweating the small stuff and taking a minute to breathe in my personal relationships with my husband, my friends, my family, my peers and my colleagues.

Make more time for myself.

Often times, I’m so focused on what feels obligatory and what person X, Y or Z would want me to do, that I don’t take care of myself and my own needs…including rest. Next year, my weeknights and weekends may be filled with more movie nights and home cooked meals with my hubby than networking events and pricey dinners with friends that 2014 had in store!

Choose optimism.

I’ve come to notice that optimism can actually be a choice and I’d like to choose to see the positive side of situations more often. Whether it’s in my work life or at home, just saying “yes” and finding the happy side of things more often is certainly something I’d like to work towards in 2015!

Find time for a healthy body and a healthy mind.

While I’ll already working on making time for numero uno, a healthy body is certainly part of the process, as optimism and a healthy mind go hand in hand, as well.  No weight loss goals are on my radar, but I would love to focus on getting back in a routine and just making healthier mental and nutrition choices across the board. Public relations and social media often times require sitting at a desk for long periods of time, so I’d like to find ways to make this just a little bit healthier! Not so hard to make healthy snacking a priority with clients like Green Plate Foods !

Hopefully 2015 will be an even more fulfilling year for me with these four goals in mind. I’m hoping to bring this same spirit into my relationships with my friends and family, and into my day-to-day work!

What are you resolving to improve upon this year?
