This week kicks-off one of Houston’s favorite seasons and after six years of living outside the Lone Star State, I couldn’t be more excited to take part in all the Rodeo Houston festivities. A proud Houstonian, this ain’t my first rodeo season, but it will be my first Rodeo in quite some time. Although my boots might be a little dusty, I still know a thing or two about the big event, so I’m sharing my “don’t miss” Rodeo agenda.
Beer, BBQ, live music and a carnival, does it get any better? This Rodeo kick-off party is a perfect practice event to get your ready before the real deal opens. Cook-Off starts this Thursday, February 27 and runs through Sunday, March 1. This little lady will be two stepping there on Saturday afternoon.
Go Texan Day
Also known as the Friday before the Houston Rodeo officially opens, Go Texan Day is one of my favorite days. Go Texan Day is a day for embracing our western roots by wearing our finest Texas attire (check out my favorite Go Texan Day attire below) and welcoming the trial riders to town. Don’t be surprised when traffic slows down because a cowboy is riding a horse pulling a wagon down I-10 or Hwy 59, that’s the beauty of the day. We might be a big city, but that doesn’t stop us from pulling out our wrangler jeans, cowboy boots, belt buckles and ten-gallon hats to get into the rodeo spirit. The IntegratePR team is full of proud Texans, so stay tuned for some Texas inspired social posts this Friday. I hope to see you dressed up and ready to celebrate the holidays with a margarita.
Happy early Throwback Thursday, y’all! Here I am in my Go Texan Day gear circa 1996.
It doesn’t matter if you get front row seats or are up in the nosebleeds, a Rodeo Houston concert is definitely something to add to your bucket list. There’s nothing like the pre-show livestock events, spinning stage and party atmosphere inside Reliant during Rodeo. Be sure to show up early for the barrel races, bull rides and my personal favorites, the calf scramble and mutton bustin’ during the pre-show. You’ll be entertained all evening, trust me!
It’s Rodeo time, y’all and I’ve never been more ready to get the party started. Did I leave out one of your favorite Rodeo events? Tell us how you plan on participating in the Rodeo madness on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
