Expect the Unexpected!

Last Friday was National Pie Day and a group of the Integrate Rockstars kicked off the national holiday with one of our sweetest clients, Three Brothers Bakery for a morning segment on KPRC Local 2. The segment featured some of Three Brother’s signature pies, including the Pumpecapple Piecake, also known as the “hottest item of 2014,” two rounds of pie trivia, and ended with Bobby Jucker, owner of Three Brothers Bakery, and many Integrate team members getting pied in the face! All in all, it was a great way to start off the day and even better way to celebrate the tasty holiday.

This is one of the many things that make the Integrate team so special. Rather than moaning and groaning about waking up a 5 a.m., the team volunteered with coffee in hand and their game faces on to help out a colleague and client and to be an extra “woo!” girl in the background of the shot, get a chance as a game participant, or to “Vanna White” the pies. Trust me, no one knew that there was a chance that those pies would end up in anyone’s face.

There is only so much you can do on live TV, so when Ruben from KPRC mentions on air that those with the wrong answers from pie trivia would result in a pie in the face for the participants, we had to go with the flow and make the most of the situation. Predictably, everyone got the answers wrong, resulting in pies in the face and GREAT television. As public relations professionals, we know what viewers want to see and knew that if we pied the anchor in the face, they would replay the segment again and again. While Ruben may not have been so happy with us, the extra legs that the story received because of this creative and spontaneous moment went that much further with our client. And of course, would not have been possible without the team being such great sports about the pies in the face.

In any job, regardless of the role that you play at a event, the most important thing to remember is to have fun and not be afraid to go the extra mile to achieve the clients’ goals. In this particular instance, going that extra mile showed both our client and our friends at KPRC that we are willing to do whatever it takes to help make “good TV,” all while giving them a glimpse of our very unique company culture.
