We’ve all been there before; today just isn’t your day. Maybe you just sat in bumper-to-bumper traffic for an hour-and-a–half or maybe the weather’s getting you down or you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. It doesn’t take much to make us stop thinking positive thoughts. Sometimes it just takes something as small as a public relations pitch getting denied, a social media post not getting the reach you expected, or a negative review posted about your client to really get you down in the dumps. We hate that.
The truth is, no matter who or what got you in this slump, the only person that can get you out of it is yourself. It sometimes doesn’t take much. We are so used to working with our supportive team members at Integrate that sometimes we forget how fortunate we are to have such an incredible support system in our office. But, even with such a strong support system, sometimes we need to take charge and fix the problem ourselves. You’re only as strong as your weakest link, right? So, instead of waiting for others to bring you comic relief or a positive reinforcement, why not take drivers seat and fix the problem yourself?
Shine those pearly whites
There’s nothing more contagious than a smile. Cliché, we know, but sometimes just smiling tricks our mind into thinking that we are having a fabulous day. Take that to the next level and try doing some nice gestures for others, like opening their door or complementing them on their outfit. You’d be surprised how quickly you’ll start feeling back to normal again.
Treat yo self!
Pick your poison; a piece of chocolate or cake or even just a good cup of coffee, is the secret to happiness (at least we like to think). We’re not asking you to completely blow your summer diet, but treat yourself in someway to something that makes you happy. It may not work for you, but nothing makes the Integrate team happier than a delicious (and sweet!) pick me up (shameless client plug: visit Three Brothers Bakery for the best treats in Houston or for those more health conscious readers, check out Green Plate Foods).
Post positive sticky notes
On days like this, sometimes having some positive reinforcements from the best invention to date—the sticky note—can make any bad day a little bit brighter. Try writing your favorite quotes or small reminders on a couple sticky notes and placing them on your desk or computer to bring a little happiness into your life. One thing that our president, Allie, has done and taught us to each do, is create a “happy” folder in our email and whenever we receive emails with client compliments, positive responses from media or supportive notes from a boss or mentor, we save them there to re-read on a “rainy” day. Reminding ourselves of those happy moments are always sure to lift our spirits.
Listen to your favorite music
Whether you’re sitting in traffic or stressed out at work, let your favorite music drown out the negativity. Make a playlist designed for this specific type of day and plug in every time you’re in a funk.
With all this gloomy and rainy weather lately, we know it’s easy to let the negativity get a hold of you, but life is just too short to let negativity bring you down. If you just so happen to be in this funk today, we hope these tips help!
